Fall is officially here! Don't be afraid of cybersecurity. It's not that scary! We are excited to share cybersecurity resources with you as we are getting closer to the end of Cybersecurity Awareness month.
This month marks the 18th year of Cybersecurity Awareness month! Previously known as National Cybersecurity Awareness month, the campaign continues to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and cyber safety. Anything that is connected to the Internet is potentially vulnerable, from your mobile device, to a smart fridge, security cameras, to thermometers. Yes, you read that correctly. In 2017, a North American Casino was hacked through the internet-connected thermometer in the lobby's fish tank. Breaches like those are an example of why it is important to continue to raise awareness about cybersecurity.
Each week of October has a theme:
Week 1: Be Cyber Smart
Week 2: Phight the Phish!
Week 3: Explore. Experience. Share.
Week 4: Cybersecurity First
Haven't been in the loop about cybersecurity awareness month? Don't worry, there's still time to get involved! Talk to your family, friends, co-workers about cybersecurity and how critical it is to have good cyber hygiene.
For more cybersecurity resources, stay connected with us! CISA also has a large library of free cybersecurity resources to look through and educate yourself with.
To go alongside Cybersecurity Awareness month, we have been releasing our own resources to help guide you through the cyber landscape. One of the most popular attack vectors is email, and for good reason. Email attacks can originate from inside the organization through compromised accounts, vulnerable insiders, social engineering, or beyond the organization's parameters.
Do your part and learn more about email security, and what you can do to better protect yourself from a cyber incident.
