The first day of Fall is approaching, which means it's time to start talking about the holidays! As other holidays begin to roll around, it's imperative that your business stays up and running, and that you are prepared for any possible disasters, both technical and weather related. 

Vigilant Attends the 36th Space Symposium

The annual Space Symposium event, held each year at the Broadmoor Hotel and Conference Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is the largest symposium of its type, bringing together space leaders from all over the globe to discuss, plan for and address the future of space. The event has been held since 1984 and is hosted and managed by the Space Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to promotion and support of the international space ecosystem. Dan Huffman, Vigilant’s Director of US Space Force Programs, attended the Symposium on behalf of the Vigilant team from August 23-26, 2021.

Of note were various speakers and luminaries, including General John “Jay” Raymond, First Chief of the United States Space Force; Maj. Gen. Heather Pringle, Commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory; Dr. Josef Aschbacher, the Director General of the European Space Agency; Gen. John Hyten, the Vice-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Lt. Gen. Larry D. James, Deputy Director of JPL; Former Florida Senator Bill Nelson, NASA Administrator, and Senator Michael Bennett of Colorado; Gwynne Shotwell, the President and COO of SpaceX; and Melanie Stricklan, the CEO of Slingshot Aerospace (one of Vigilant’s counterpart companies in the 2020 Data Fusion cohort at Catalyst Accelerator), among many, many others. It was truly an honor to share meals and make acquaintances with so many amazing people who are bringing their experience and their expertise to this critical enterprise. It felt like being injected with a bit of “rocket fuel”!

The event was dynamic, consisting not only of the various presentations and panels featuring the people who are today’s “movers and shakers” in the space enterprise from around the world, but also featured a large trade show, showing off the latest in technologies being presented by the companies with the longest histories in space exploration and discovery, alongside the newcomers who are bringing change and new ideas to the enterprise. Vigilant was able to engage with dozens of other companies, in the effort to build on the successes of our SBIR program developments, and discover new pathways for our technology development.

Vigilant’s successes so far with the Air Force and Space Force is growing fast, and we’re proud to be joining our efforts with so many others in this incredibly important enterprise to help solve the problems and challenges of space for many years to come!

National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month is an observance each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. The theme this year is “Prepare to Protect. Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love.”

Each week of September focuses on a different aspect of preparedness:

Businesses face a wide variety of disasters. 40% of businesses never recover from a disaster, and the risk is much higher for small businesses. An alarming 75% of small businesses that suffer a significant data loss go out of business within the following year. This includes cybersecurity and other tech related hazards such as power outages and equipment failure. Make sure to take time this month to re-evaluate your emergency plans, disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

SQRL Blog

In 2013, security expert Steve Gibson introduced Secure, Quick, Reliable Login (SQRL). SQRL can be implemented as a Sigle Sign On (SSO) solution, challenging the identity sprawl created by many applications a company needs. Instead of creating and managing accounts for 10 company applications, internal teams can use SQRL to login with just one master password.
