Vigilant Technologies has been a member of the East Valley Institute of Technology’s Advisory Board for the last 5 years, helping to provide expert input for one of the Valley’s most influential vocational/technical programs for high school students. As the 2019-2020 school year opened, the EVIT Advisory Board elected Dan Huffman, Vigilant’s Director of Business Development, to the position of Board President. This will give Vigilant the opportunity to lead the way in driving instruction and curriculum design for EVIT students who are seeking a future in the IT field. Vigilant also draws interns from EVIT each year and gives them the opportunity to earn school credit for work performed on various projects the company is engaged in, including virtualization, infrastructure sustaining, web development, cybersecurity, and software development.

The EVIT Advisory Board has a two-fold purpose: First, it is to drive instruction and ensure that appropriate and relevant curriculum is designed to support current business and industry needs; second, it is to assist the classroom with necessary supplies, equipment, training and support as needed to ensure the students are learning with current technology.

The board also includes members of the EVIT faculty and administrative team, and liaisons from other organizations and businesses, all of whom work together to help provide students with a solid foundation on which to build their eventual careers in tech. Some of those members include:

Bill Olney, EVIT IT faculty team lead and networking instructor - His program includes 16 available dual enrollment credits for students, who can also test for CCT and CCNA certifications

Tom Mehlert, AZStRUT – AZStRUT is an organization that repurposes used computer equipment for student enrichment and learning

Jared Bodine, Digital Device Diagnostics and Repair instructor – his program offers 9 dual enrollment college credits and students will test for CompTIA A+ Certification.

Christopher Vadnais, Cybersecurity instructor – his program focuses on on Linux Skills, Kali Linux, Operating on Virtual Machines, Research, Analysis and Critical Thinking, and students will take the CompTIA Security+ Curriculum to prepare them for the Security+ Certification Exam.  Chris is currently working on getting 3 dual enrollment credits for the spring semester through Mesa Community College.

A switch stack is a set of up to nine Catalyst 3750 switches connected through their StackWise ports. One of the switches controls the operation of the stack and is called the stack master. The stack master and the other switches in the stack are stack members. Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols present the entire switch stack as a single entity to the network.
