Working remotely is now the norm, given the threats that coronavirus imposes. What about virus protection for business data when systems are exposed to vulnerability by unprotected, remote work stations?
Carl Ingram, Chief Information Officer of Vigilant Technologies warns, “It’s not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’ a small- or medium-sized business’ data will be breached with employees working remotely from home.”
“One of the first measures we implement when initiating work with new clients is to secure remote networking. We’ve been doing this for years,” said Mike Kirk, Vigilant’s lead in Data Protection Management.
According to Vigilant client Pam Greninger, CEO of All State Tax & Accounting, “About four years ago, Vigilant set us up with remote client control data sharing, enabling us to work on clients’ computers remotely to do their bookkeeping, accounting, and payroll. That has saved us countless hours of travel, fuel costs, and wear-and-tear on our vehicles.”
Fast forward to now, with isolation due to Covid-19, “We have been able to carry on with our clients, since Vigilant set us up with web meeting capabilities years ago, and our entire staff were already used to working in the cloud,” Greninger said. “We have not missed a beat and in fact the demand for people to get their stimulus checks had shot our workload through the roof. Vigilant instantly increased the resources for our cloud servers for the overflow of employees working from home leading into our busiest tax season ever.”

Vigilant Technologies explores Zoom’s successes and down-sides. What are Zoom’s security issues? How are they attempting to fix the issues? And what users can do to make their Zoom experience more secure.
As millions of employees transitioned to working from home, the need to use newer software to adapt to remote communications has arisen. Among those, Zoom is an increasingly popular video- conferencing platform that enables creating or join meetings from anywhere. Amid Covid-19 quarantine practices, Zoom has bloomed as a social communications platform for the public at large. According to a blog article published by Zoom; in December 2019, Zoom had 10 million daily users. That number has now skyrocketed to over 200 million. Its rapid growth in numbers of users has left the platform and its users questioning its security.

An Android trojan known as "Mandrake" has been stealthily targeting Android users for four years. The banking trojan has been distributed via trojanized Google Play store apps. Once installed, the malware will create fake visual components, such as a fake EULA, language preferences, among others. This tricks the user into clicking the 'Agree' button, giving the malware the permission it needs to cause chaos.
